Merrie Monarch Festival

Since last night Thursday April 28,2011 Hawaii has been in full Hula mode as we celebrate the olympics of Hula with the begining of the Merrie Monarch festival .  Maui was proud as our girls
placed 1st and 2nd .  Ms Aloha Hula 2011 is none other than Tori Hulali Canha of Halau Ke’alaokamaile, under the direction of Kumu Hula Keali’i Reichel.  Just three points separated Canha from fellow Mauian and second place finisher, Manalani Mili Hokoana English, of Halau Na Lei Kaumaka O Uka. Canha racked up a total of 1071 points, followed by English with 1068 points. We are so very proud of both girls.  You represented Maui well.  For all of our mainland followers go to the following link and learn about one of Hawaii's greatest treasures. http://www.merriemonarch.com/

Tonight we will watch as the men and women compete in the Hula Kahiko.  Saturday we will watch the Auana Hula and the award ceremony hoping that more honors come home to our island

Good Luck to all competitors

When should I do my nails and get waxed before your wedding

The most asked question by a bride is when should she get waxed and her nails done before her wedding?

We reccommend at least 3 days before your wedding for waxing.  If there is some reddness it will
definitly be gone by the day of your wedding.

On your nails it really depends on you. If you want to wear artificial nails for your wedding and you
never wore any before we say do the application at least 3 days prior this gives you time to get use to
them and allows you to get use to the feel check with your salon and find out if someone is available
on the day of your wedding in case of any last minute emergency's.

If you have beautiful nails and just want them shaped and painted the day before will be fine and we
will make sure they look great for you.

We hope this helps you with your special day.  A good reminder is to make sure you go into your salon and meet with the receptionist and book your appointment early so you will not be disappointed. Check out the nail artist work you may want to add some bling to your fingers.

Have a wonderful day

Aloha

Nail Art

The beauty of our appearance does not just depend on our dressing styles and garment selection but also on the way we present and carry us. A lot of our interaction is dependent on our hands and fingers, which has contributed in popularizing manicuring and nail care accessories to a great extent including the health factors associated with nails. Once your nails are manicured and ready to flaunt their gloss and shine it is time to decorate your nails with beauty and style. Nail Art is an imaginative and artistic process, involving special care and expertise for bringing out the best effects.

Nail art primarily refers to the design and color patterns the nails are decorated with. Nail artists use the nails as a canvas to explore their creative ideas and enhance the appearance of the nails. Various elements such as gems, stones, glitter, abstracts, crystal, crushed sea-shells, glass beads and prints are used for decorating the nails. Some artists use stickers and even dried and fragile flowers and diamantes as ingredients of nail arts.

Performing nail arts with perfection needs special skills and expertise. Different techniques and methods are employed by the nail artists to attain perfection in this art. These techniques may vary from hand painted designs and patterns to various artwork created with the help of specific nail coloring and designing tools such as air gun brushes and nail pencils. Nail art works best for people with long and smooth nails which help in accentuating the designs and décor created on them.

Hand painted nail art involves innovative designs and patterns with sharp edged brushes used to draw or paint fine dots and designs. Some artists also use toothpicks to get a better grip and draw stripes and patterns. Air brushes are typically used for coloring the nails with a fine spray. Once the nails are enriched with a fine textured color, small heart or star shaped stones are attached on the nails and complimented by an appropriate design or pattern painted around them. Some artists use also use glitters and gloss that impart a shiny and glamorous look to highlight the nails, especially on special occasions. Delicate designs and patterns on a French manicure base are used for bridal nail art.

Along with colors and sparkles one of the other popular forms of nail art includes nail piercing. In this, the nail is pierced with a piece of jewelry or a shining stone. Although very popular and trendy, this process is almost impossible on natural nails as the piercing might cause spitting or chipping of the nails. Nail piercing can be ideal with acrylic nails, allowing the insert to get imbedded right into the acrylic without affecting the natural nail.

How to make your Acrylic nails last long

Acrylic nails are durable and attractive, but inevitably require costly and time-consuming replacements and fill-ins. Though acrylic nails should be removed entirely every so often for the health of the natural nail, following these steps will help you make your set last as long as possible and cut down on trips to the nail technician.

    • Get a shorter length manicure if you work with your hands a lot. Even the pressure applied to nails from typing can accumulate into breaks over time. Keeping the acrylics short can help alleviate stress to the nails.

    • Wear gloves when doing housework and using chemical cleaners. Yes, it's a pain to have to don ugly rubber gloves every time you wipe down the counter, but each time those cleaners come into contact with your manicure, the acrylic breaks down a little more. At minimum, wear gloves while doing dishes and cleaning bathrooms .

    • File "lifted" areas immediately, before moisture and microbes have a chance to get into the open space. Don't glue these areas, as this can introduce bacteria and fungi into the nails.

    • Get hand massages to increase circulation, and take calcium supplements to improve the health of the natural nail. This can cause your natural nails to grow faster and thus increase the need for fill-ins, but keeping your real nails healthy will ensure the acrylic has something to attach to.
    • Use non-acetone polish removers on acrylic nails. Acetone breaks acrylic down and it is what professionals often use to remove acrylic nails. Also avoid products with a high alcohol content, as this will dry out the nails and make them brittle.

Vitamins to help Nail Growth

Good Morning on this beautiful Wednesday morning in Hawaii today I am going to let you know what vitamins will help your Nails grow and get stronger. The condition of your nails is a good indication of how healthy you are. If your nails are short, cracked and thin, that is a sign that you are not getting enough nutrition. Human beings need a wide assortment of vitamins and minerals in order to stay healthy and prevent disease. In addition, there are certain key vitamins that help specifically with nail growth and strength.  Taking these vitamins daily will help to ensure that your nails get healthy and strong

    • Biotin is such an important vitamin for so many reasons. Biotin is also included in the family of B-vitamins. Biotin helps to metabolize fats, carbohydrates and other proteins in addition to regulating the metabolism. However, the main thing biotin is known for is beauty. Biotin helps to regenerate cells. This results in stronger thicker hair and nails. Take 1,000 mg of biotin daily in addition to a multi-vitamin andmineral supplement for best results.  Foods that contain high levels of biotin are eggs, beans and brewers yeast.

    • MSM is another great vitamin when it comes to beauty. MSM is also called methysulfonylmethane, and it's a natural form organic sulfur. This nutrient is found in certain foods and within the human body. MSM is important because it helps to maintain the structure of proteins in the body. That helps keratin to form. For best results, take 1,500 mg or more of MSM per day.

    • Calcium is a great way to maintain healthy, strong bones, but calcium is also an important beauty vitamin. Calcium stimulates nail growth and strength. Take 1,000 mg of calcium per day--in addition to your other vitamins--for best results. Calcium rich foods are carrots, milk and almonds.

    •  Folic acid has been known as a great vitamin to help prevent birth defects, but it is also a great beauty vitamin. Folic acid helps the body make new cells and promote hair and nail growth. Folic acid can be found in dark green leafy vegetables, eggs and beans, just to name a few. You can also take folic acid as a supplement. The recommended daily dose is 600 to 800 mcg.

    • Vitamin A is so important for healthy skin and nails because it helps to increase healthy skin cells. The safest form of vitamin A is beta carotene. Beta carotene can be found in carrots, almonds and fish. You can also take beta carotene as a supplement of 25,000 IU or less. Vitamin A in retinal form should not be taken in high doses.
Have a wonderful day and we will see you soon in the salon
